Description
One of the South's most historic homes, the Chesnut Cottage Bed and Breakfast became Columbia's first bed and breakfast when it began receiving guests in 1991 and has been in business continuously since that date. Our five guest rooms provide the warm southern hospitality so notably described by Mary Chesnut in her "Diary from Dixie" as she entertained many of her friends and family here. Among them were President Jefferson Davis and his wife Varina, Custis Lee, son of Robert E. Lee, and John Manning, former governor of South Carolina. Mary Chesnut wrote many pages of her "Diary from Dixie" in the rooms and on the porches of the Cottage.
